Bronwyn Pratt is the founder of The Goldsmith’s Studio – Jewellers & Artisans Gallery, and started her jewellery career at RMIT in 1976, when she completed her Gold & Silversmithing qualifications.
Gold and Silversmithing is in her blood, and over the past 40 years, she has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. The Goldsmith’s Studio, located in San Remo, offers jewellery design, repair, appraisals and valuations.
Here is her inspiring entrepreneurship story.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I was a qualified Gold & Silversmith, but then became a secondary teacher in the late 1970’s. The closer I got to retirement age, the more I wanted to open a studio and gallery to sell my unique, bespoke work, and showcase other aspiring creative jewellers and artisans. I did this in San Remo, making the lifestyle move from Melbourne to where we usually holidayed!
I opened the gallery in 2009, but unfortunately had to close down in 2018 for personal reasons. In 2021, after expecting to retire properly, my shop became available again, so I decided to reopen and help out the local artisans who desperately needed somewhere to display and sell their artworks!
